Not long after 10,000 apps became available in the App Store for download, Apple revealed that 300 million apps have been downloaded from the App Store for the iPhone and iPod touch. The news was revealed in the form of online advertisements placed on the Wall Street Journal and New York Times webpages, information that had not been previously revealed to the public.

The iPhone has displayed a 327.5% gain in market share in the worldwide smartphone market for the third quarter this year, rising from 3.4% to 12.9% in just the quarter, despite the slowing worldwide economy’s effect on smartphone sales. iPhone sales have also passed sales of Windows Mobile devices in North America for the first time. Now that the iPhone has bested the cellphone industry in the US, they’ve set their sights on a new target: handheld gaming devices. It seems like just yesterday that we heard that the iPhone had become the second most popular handset today in the US, right behind Motorola’s RAZR. iPhone carriers across the world are seeing significant increases in profit due to the device, according to a recent report.
