More wackiness from Cupertino’s council of app elders! First they approved the possibly-illegal sex offender locator app, and it rose to the top 10. Then they yanked it. Now, it’s back again.
Why is it back? Who knows. It’s still illegal in California, as selling personal info is against the law there, which was presumably why it was yanked before. It would be legal if it was made free, but it’s still selling like hotcakes at $.99 to parents who are worried about

Remember the Sex Offender Locator in the App Store? Because America kind of sucks sometimes, it was one of Apple’s top 10 paid apps for a while. Until Apple yanked it, that is.
The makers are apparently planning on suing Apple over this, but I don’t think they have a leg to stand on: it’s illegal to sell someone’s personal information in California, kidtoucher or no. And since this was a paid app, they really don’t have much to say about it, now do they?
I guess now it’s back to finding out whether or not your neighbor is going to molest you the old fashioned way: via judgement of their appearance.

The app uses GPS to show you where all the registered sex offenders are near you at any given time. You can also use addresses from your contacts list if you want to check out where the perverts live near your friends and family.
