iOS 4.3.1 Does Not Fix iPhone Exploit(0)
The iOS 4.3.1 update released yesterday does not fix the Pwn2Own exploit discovered by Charlie Miller.
iOS 4.3.1 does not fix the pwn2own bug. It’s weird they fixed it in the next os x update after the contest, but not the next iPhone update.
More time for the bad guys to get their bindiff->iPhone exploit workflow going.
The attack simply required that the target iPhone surfs to a rigged web site. On first attempt at the drive-by exploit, the iPhone browser crashed but once it was relaunched, Miller was able to hijack the entire address book.
It’s unclear why Apple didn’t fix the widely publicized exploit.
iPad 2 Locking Up(0)
Some users have reported freezing issues with FaceTime video chat on their iPad 2, requiring a restart of the device, according to an AppleInsider report.
Several threads on the Apple support forums describe a problem where the image displayed by the front camera on the iPad 2 crashes. A reboot is usually required to fix the issue.
“It happens quite frequently,” said user leov36. “Restarting the ipad fixes the problem, BUT, it happens again with in the next two to three times i go to use it.”
iOS 4.3.1 Leaked(0)
BGR has managed to get the unreleased iOS 4.3.1 update installed on their iPhone.
One of our Apple connects just installed the unreleased and unseen iOS 4.3.1 build on one of our iPhones, and we’ve been playing around with it for a couple days. We reported the changes from iOS 4.3 a few days back, and it really does look as if iOS 4.3.1 will simply fix bugs, hence the version numbering. Battery life seems a tad bit better, though that’s not scientific at all.
iOS 4.3.1 is expected to be released publicly within the next 1-2 weeks.
Testing Begins on iPhone 5 With Metal Chasis(0)
The iPhone 5 has reportedly entered the trial production stage in preparation for a Q3 release, according to the China Times.
The report says the iPhone 5 will have a metal chassis to improve antenna sensitivity as well as a scratch resistant 4-inch touch screen.
Rumors suggests that perhaps the video of next generation iPhone parts that surfaced in January was of the iPhone 5 and not the Verizon iPhone as some suggested.
Looking back at old rumors, an iPhone 5 parts video that surfaced back in January may have actually been an early look at the iPhone 5 casing. That video actually first revealed the new antenna dividers found on the Verizon iPhone, Read More
Apples New MobileMe Service Coming in April?(0)
Apple’s new, free version of MobileMe is reportedly set to launch in April, according to a ‘trusted’ iLounge source.
The source, who works for a major educational institution, claims the school’s supplier has said the current version of MobileMe is no longer available, and that Apple is suggesting new students sign up for the 60-day trial to cover the gap between the final MobileMe shipment and the launch of the new version. In addition, the source was told that Apple will be supporting the existing version of MobileMe for the next year, suggesting that the new version will be quite different Read More
iPhone 5 Prototypes Metal Back, Larger Screen(0)
iPhone 5 prototypes with a metal back and larger screen have reportedly been spotted at Foxconn, according to 9to5Mac.
Although some reports claim the iPhone 5 will adopt a curved metal back, our source says models have been floating around with a flat metal back. The material of this metal is unspecified. Our brains say aluminum but our hearts wonder if this could be Liquid Metal.
The next major enhancement is said to be a larger display. An enhanced screen for the next-iPhone has been rumored, but an exact screen size has only been pinpointed by Digitimes (4 inches). Our sources do not have precise screen Read More
iOS 4.3 Untethered Jailbreak Coming This Week(0)
i0n1c has announced that he will likely release his untether for the iOS 4.3 jailbreak before next weekend.
Because of several changes in iOS 4.3 in comparison to iOS 4.2.1 the jailbreak is NOT READY yet. That is what the *ALPHA* means. I need some time to check what kernel patches are actually required to work 100%ly.
However I recommend the dev-team or chronic-dev to first release a *tethered* iOS 4.3 so that everyone can test if their nice feature actually work. I guess most people require Mobile Substrate to work and AFAIK it does not work due to ASLR. It would be a waste if Apple kills an untethered jailbreak before Mobile Substrate works.
That said I will release the jailbreak when a) there is no other untether by the time I am finished b) if MobileSubstrate works.
Any report that I wait for iOS 4.3.1 is just a misinterpretation of my words.
I0n1c has previously said that his untether will likely end up in RedSn0w. As usual we will keep you up to date with the latest news.
You can watch the untether video below… Read More
