Is this the honest-to-goodness iPhone 4 jailbreak we’ve been waiting for, or just another userland JB? It’s hard to say from here… but either way, don’t expect Geohot to release it into the wild. In a mildly jaded blog post, the original iPhone hacker makes it clear that whatever he did here was for his own amusement, and judging by the title of that entry (“Meh”) the whole breaking-and-entering bit isn’t giving him quite the same chuckles it used to. That’s a shame, but we hear the iPhone Dev Team is making progress apace, so let’s leave Geohot to tackle one of his other promised hacks, mmmkay?

Sorry, we couldn’t wait — having spent 11 hours on the streets waiting for the iPhone 4, it’s only natural to give our precious new toy some extra special care. With the help of iFixit’s teardown guide, we decided to take the plunge with our steaming hot Chinese delivery — a white front cover (with a shiny proximity sensor area above the earpiece), a white back cover (with “XXXXX” marked as the model number, ergo a prototype), and a Retina Display unit. Alas, there weren’t any white buttons in stock at the time, but let’s pretend this black-and-white combo is the new cool. Read on to find out how the surgery went.

The iPhone Dev-Team has released a minor update to UltraSn0w which fixes a permissions problem for those unlocking their 04.26.08 baseband on the iOS 4.0GM Seed firmware.
What is the ultrasn0w 0.92.1 COMPATIBILITY update?
Version 0.92.1 of the ultrasn0w unlock is meant for those with baseband 04.26.08 running on 4.0GM. It does not use any new exploits, it merely fixes a logfile permission problem.
A new ultrasn0w capable of unlocking 4.0’s baseband isn’t yet released because both the final 4.0 and iPhone 4 are coming out next week. Please be patient.

Man, one day you have the whole world’s ear to talk about slack network security, and the next you’re in the joint. Andrew Auernheimer, Goatse Security’s hacker-in-chief and a key player in the unearthing of a major security flaw exposing iPads surfing AT&T’s airwaves, is today facing felony charges for possession of a variety of potent drugs. That wouldn’t be such intriguing news by itself, but the discovery was made by local law enforcers who were in the process of executing an FBI Read the full story

RedSn0w has been updated to version 0.9.5 beta 5 and adds the ability to jailbreak iOS 4.0 GM seed on your iPhone 3G or iPod 2G.
—
The redsn0w beta has been updated for 4.0GM, and it now supports the iPod touch 2G too. Multitasking and homescreen wallpaper are now turned on by default (Apple doesn’t normally allow this on these 2 devices). (Update: the 0.9.5b5-1 version now lets you decide whether you want multitasking and wallpaper enabled or not.)
Because 4.0GM isn’t yet public, you’ll need a Mac and iTunes 9.2 to use it. Since this redsn0w beta is intended only for those with legitimate developer program access, this shouldn’t be a problem.
Just like our other betas, this one intentionally doesn’t “hactivate”. Please wait for Apple’s public release of 4.0 for that part of it.

An unofficial PwnageTool bundle which allows you to upgrade to the pre-release of iOS 4.0 GM while keeping your jailbreak and old baseband has been posted by msftguy.
We strongly recommend not attempting this until the final version of iOS 4.0 is released and the iPhone Dev-Team posts the official update to PwnageTool.
For the advanced users who want to check the bundle out you can find it here.
You can see a demo video below…
