Google has made some changes to the look of its mobile site for Android and iPhone.
As with Mobile Gmail, Latitude, Calendar and Tasks, the color contrast of the style now adds more focus to the search results of the page, and the header controls are bigger to make them easier to touch.
The Google logo has been moved up to the top of the search results page, allowing for an increase in the width and height of the search box. You can now more easily touch the larger box to enter a new search, the new big bold font makes it easier to see what you have entered, and the wider box helps you see more characters at once.
The homepage now has a new search button beside the search box rather than below, so when search suggestions appear, they no longer hide the button.

Apple hasn’t added push for Gmail to its Mail app on the iPhone, but Google has worked around that via Google Sync. All you have to do is set it up as aMicrosoft Exchangeaccount. At last!

My biggest disappointment with iPhone 3.0 is there’s still no push Gmail. (Probably due some to contractual BS, but whatever.) GPush is a 99-cent app that almost fixes it by sending you push notifications whenever you get a new message.
It’s dead simple—you enter your Gmail account information and that’s it. On the backend, it’s actually using Gmail’s standard IMAP idle function (but on the developer Tiverias’ servers), so there’s a slight delay between the mail hitting your inbox and the notification getting pushed from them to your phone. But the 10-30 seconds lag MG Seigler reports is totally acceptable, especially since you get a pop-up preview of the email.

Today Google rolled out a major update for both Gmail and Calendar for iPhone. The most obvious improvements lie in the new Gmail and Calendar interface. Labels are much more visible, search is easier to get to, and a new floating menu appears when performing batch tasks. All of the improvements stem from the updated engine which is significantly faster and more powerful. In addition to interface tweaks, the new engine also improves the speed of Gmail mobile and even allows you to compose a message even when cell service drops out.

Even though Apple isn’t taking part in Mobile World Congress 2009 in Barcelona, the iPhone is present in a big way. While their competitors offered their criticism of the device and it’s business model, developers showed off their latest iPhone software, including offline GMail from google and a turn-by-turn GPS navigation client.
The iPhone was one of the topics that came up during a panel discussion this week, prompting criticism from many of Apple’s competitors, including Microsoft. Steve Ballmer said the following:
