Currently the jailbreak for 4.4+ is tethered, which is a bit less convenient than an untethered version. If the features added in 4.4 excite you it may be worth updating; however, the previous 4.3 version will continue to be supported so updating is not required.

A representative from Apple recently called Kureha Corp.’s offices in the U.S faced with the problem of tight supplies of lithium-ion batteries used in its popular iPods. According to the WSJ, they were able to trace the issue to its Japanese chemicals maker Kureha.

According to a Bloomberg report, Verizon Wireless will also sell a version of the iPad that directly connects to their network. It is unclear on whether it will be based off of CDMA or LTE technologies.

Verizon will get an embedded chip in the iPad for use on its network, Francis Shammo, chief financial officer of Verizon Communications Inc., the parent of the wireless unit, said today in an interview in New York. IPad users currently need an extra device to connect to Verizon’s network. Shammo declined to say when the change may happen.

In October of 2010, Verizon started selling the iPad with a Mifi hotspot bundle ranging from $629.99 to $829.99. Currently, the iPad only operates on AT&T’s 3G network.

The company brought in revenues of $15.68 billion, good for $3.38 billion in profit, or $3.67 profit per share. The New York Times reports that bank and insurance company USAA is currently developing a system that will allow you to deposit checks via their iPhone application. Users will be able to take a picture of a check and send it to their deposit system, where it is processed.

“We’re essentially taking an image of the check, and once you hit the send button, that image is going into our deposit-taking system as any other check would,” said USAA’s Wayne Peacock.
