iPhone 3GS Jailbreak Purplera1n with Windows Vista

These are instructions on how to jailbreak your iPhone 3GS using PurpleRa1n for Windows.

This is a preliminary jailbreak and thus some apps such as Winterboard will not work. You may want to consider waiting for the jailbreak release from the iPhone Dev-Team if this is important to you.

This tutorial works great with Windows XP;

To get this to work with Windows Vista follow these steps.

1st right click on purplera1n.exe, select compatibility tab, check run as administrator  and check run as windows xp sp2. Click apply and ok.

Next you must go into windows control panel and turn off User Accout Control (UAC). Disable UAC and reboot.

Once back into Windows Vista run purplera1n.exe. If purplera1n hangs, just exit out of purplera1n app and run it again. You might have to run it a couple of times. I have done this several times on different Vista machine and it works.

Instructions:

Download purplera1n. This download is Windows only. Also it doesn’t work on Windows 7. It IS beta so make sure you have all your data before trying to use this tool. A Mac version should be following something in the near future.

Run purplera1n. Click make it ra1n.

You should see a screen where purplera1n is connecting to your iphone.

Sadly that’s as far as I get (I blame betanesssss).

BUT those of you lucky enough to make it all the way the remainder of the steps are as follows:

Wait until your iPhone 3GS boots up again. Run Freeze. Click self explanatory buttons to install Cydia and whatnot. Go party.
