Known for their IM client on other smartphones, Beejive [iTunes] created a web app for the iPhone in the beginning; however, it was their native application that really turned my head. Beejive has come a long way from its web app roots, and the company recently updated the application to version 2.0, which adds more features than ever before.

Version 2.0 of the Beejive IM client adds the following features:
- File transfers You can now send/receive file transfers right on your iPhone. Send a photo, or receive and open multiple different file formats including: most image, audio, and video files, PDFs, Word documents, Excel spreadsheets, and PowerPoint documents.
- Voice Notes With the 2.0 version of Beejive, you now have the ability to send voice notes right from your iPhone. Just tap the blue chat bar at the top and tap the microphone — your iPhone will instantly start recording, and you will be able to send this voice note as a file transfer to your buddies. This is one of the coolest new features in the 2.0 release.
- Configurable Sounds In the Settings application, you will now be able to select Beejive > Sounds to customize the sounds Beejive will utter when sending/receiving messages. Currently, you can choose from either the Default, Yahoo, or AIM sounds.
- Integration with Address Book You can link your buddies on your buddy list with your different contacts in the Address Book of your iPhone. This allows you to see exactly who is messaging you, without having to remember who’s handle is who.
Overall, the 2.0 release of Beejive is very stable, and seems to be a huge improvement over the other versions. If you are an IM maven, then this application is definitely for you. It’s a first-class instant messenger client, and the price matches it. For $15.99 US, you will get an awesome application that will allow you to keep in touch with your friends and family — well worth the price in my opinion. You can find more information about Beejive [iTunes], and download your own copy, from the iTunes App Store.
