An Intel executive was badmouthing the iPhone’s ARM processor yesterday, claiming it wasn’t powerful enough to run powerful apps and should’ve been replaced with an Intel chip instead. Now a higher ranking executive has corrected the comment in a public statement issued on the Intel website.
Anand Chandrasekher, general manager of Intel’s ultra-mobility products group, issued a statement noting that
their Atom processor chip line referred to by Pankaj Kedia doesn’t match the same battery life characteristics Apple was looking for with the iPhone, and that, while they do have plans to become compeditive in that market in the future, Apple’s decision was understandable. He also added that it was wrong of an Intel executive to comment on the design habits of a specific company in that way.
